2010 Team Roster

The 2010 CCNS Cycling Team Roster has been finalized. The team is looking forward to building upon its 2009 season success in the northeast racing circuit in 2010. The team is looking forward to extending its racing schedule to select NRC races throughout the East Coast for the upcoming season as well.

Current team members Aidan Charles (1), Chris Kohnle (2), David Hoyle (2), and Ron Larose (1) will be continuing on with the squad for 2010. The Team has brought on 3 new talented riders for the 2010 season, Ernie Tautkus (2), Jon Awerbach (1), and Ryan Serbel (2).

Almost all of 2009 sponsors are continuing on for the New Year… including Jarvis Surgical, CT Hernia, and Custom Medical Manufacturing. New 2010 Season Sponsors are still being finalized, with the likely possibility of additional title and major sponsors!

Topsfield Circuit Race

The CCNS guys has a great showing in the Pro 1,2,3 race on Saturday. Ron LaRose took home the win with Aidan Charles and David Hoyle also finishing in the top 10. The guys are still riding strong and the 2009 road season comes to a close.

Green Mountain Stage Race

The team had a handful of riders competing in the Green Mountain Stage Race this passed weekend. Everyone rode strong and completed the 4 day event. David Hoyle finished 3rd in the Circuit Race on Saturday to get the first podium of the race for CCNS. Ron LaRose took home the overall Cat. 2 Sprint Points win & Green Jersey with David Hoyle close behind in 2nd. Ron also place 4th in the Cat. 2 King of the Mountains (KOM) category. Congrats to Ron and David on 2 podium appearances!

Craig Luekens is the "2009 Plainville Series Pro 1,2,3 Champion" followed by David Hoyle in 3rd. With those 2 on the podium CCNS secured the "Pro 1,2,3 Team Champions" honor as well. CCNS also got on the podium placing 3rd overall in the Masters 39+ bracket thanks to Steve Youmatz's hard work. Great job guys!

Johnny Cake Race #2

The conditions were awesome on the 2nd race of the Johnny Cake Series. The temperature was just over 40 degrees, the winds were gusting over 25mph, and there was drizzling rain throughout the day… It was a great hard-man’s-race environment. Aidan, Brian, Ron, and Dave were representing the CCNS squad for the day.

Right from the gun Aidan went with the first move of 4 riders, which immediately formed a decent size gap. After staying away for the first lap the move was reeled in, only to be countered immediately by Ron. From this excellently time effort a breakaway group of 8 riders formed the winning break of the day. The break worked together well for the next 45 miles going into the final lap. Everyone approached the final lap cautiously, waiting for one of their breakaway companions to initiate the first aggressive move. Ron took it upon himself to start the hurt with about 1km to go. Everyone managed to respond to his move, but this didn’t stop him from beating everyone for 1st place in the final sprint by a healthy margin. Another great day for Team CCNS!

Weekend Results: March 28th & 29th

Plainville # 4

The usual suspects and teams were out for the race. Stage One and IRS Medic in were large numbers, the Cyclonauts and a couple of CVC riders. In a surprise move, long time unattached rider Tim Unkert was sporting the yellow and black Cyclonaut jersey.
Craig, Hunter and Chris K were out for CCNS, ready to get into the assumed winning break.

Pretty quickly a 3 man break developed with young Connor Sallee, Unkert and a rider from Empire Cycling. This break was given some leeway, as it didnt have any Stage 1 or Medics in it.

When it was evident that the Stage 1 and Medic chase wouldn't be enough to bring the break back, Chris and Hunter went to work up front. When the gap was brought from 25+ sec to less than 12, Craig jumped across the gap with Medic rider Mike McGinley. He would bridge up in a couple of laps to the tiring trio in front, making it 6 in the break with only Stage One left to chase. Craig was able to fend off a couple of last lap attacks from the break and take the sprint for the win. Hunter easily took the field sprint, with Chris right behind him in 8th.

The jersey now is on the back of Craig Luekens, with second place one point behind, Dave Hoyle.

Johnny Cake

The weather was beautiful for the first of the Johnny Cake Training Series (Coxsackie, NY). Team members Aidan Charles, Brian Tompkins, David Hoyle, Patrick Brandon, and Ron LaRose lined up for the Men’s A race. The weather helped promote the race, with a full field of 70-80 riders on the line! Some of the larger teams with a good turnout were the Spooky/Kenda Team, Westwood Velo, and the Keltic Cycling Club, all with around 10 riders representing from each squad.

Team CCNS rode very well from the start. The team always had representation in any threatening break, and managed to get both Patrick Brandon and Aidan Charles up the road in a break of 10 riders for the remainder of the 55 mile race. Within one or two laps, both Patrick and Aidan managed to slip away from the breakaway with two Westwood Velo Riders, infamous Roger Aspholm and Todd Cassan. It was Two-on-Two for the remainder of the race.

After some tough efforts Patrick found himself shaken loose from his breakaway companions, leaving Aidan with the two Westwood riders. He dropped back to the chasing remainder of the breakaway. Aidan managed to stick with the two Westwood riders down to the finish, taking second place against Roger in the sprint. Patrick also managed to take 5th place overall for the day after winning the sprint out of the chasing group.

Bethel # 3

Team CCNS made its largest showing yet for the Bethel series today, with team members Aidan Charles, Chris Kohnle, David Hoyle, Patrick Brandon, and Ron Larose making it out to the race.

A stiff wind on the course made the race a little tougher than usual, and after a quite a few break away attempts, Team CCNS was able to put Aidan, Dave, and Ron in a break of 10 riders with about 10 laps to go. As Patrick and Chris held the field behind at bay… Aidan Charles attacked the break with 3 laps to go in order to draw out some of the break's main competitors, including Eneas from Team Targettraining. With Eneas and the rest of the breakaway members chasing, Ron and Dave were able to pounce on the tired riders in the final lap, and take 1st and 2nd in the finish! Ron also managed to take a prime, adding a great final touch to a successful and exciting day.

Plainville #3

After last week’s great performance, David Hoyle earned himself the overall leader’s jersey. Team CCNS had to play a defensive role for the race, with the goal being to make sure that no one in contention for the overall was able to get up the road and away from Dave. The team set out to keep a steady pace on the front, and not let any threatening break get to far ahead without proper representation.

With members of the team being on the front for the large majority of the race, CCNS was able to control the race, even with the good deal of challenges laid down by the other teams, including CVC, Team IRSmedic.com, and Team Stage-One/Fusion think. Ron Larose was able to scoop up points primes, and David Hoyle was able to get second in the final sprint, with the help of a lead-out from the rest of the team.

The team now has a healthy gap in the overall team points competition, and is holding on to 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the in the individual points competition for the P123 ranks.

Weekend Results: March 14th & 15th

Bethel #2

A solid field lined up for the second Bethel race of the season under some surprisingly sunny skies. Many of the usual suspects showed up, all in their new team gear, ready to find some racing legs for the 2009 season. The race was active all day, with lots of various moves going up the road - some of which the two lone CCNS riders, Hunter and Luekens, were mixing it up in.

The most promising break of the day - with Hunter, some Targetraining, Bubble boys, and Keltic folks represented - made it to about 20-30 seconds before the field brought it back. That's not to mention Luekens and Hunter going 1-2 in a cash prime later in the race. It wasn't until about 10 laps to go that a strong move of Eneas from Targetraining and Chad Butts from Champion System (who earlier edged Luekens out for a prime) made it up the road. Their gap made it to a max of 15 seconds, which apparently wasn't enough to scare the better represented teams of FusionThink and Keltic. Hovering at 12sec. with only 2 to go, something of a chase finally materialized, but it was too little too late as the sprinters finished just a few bike lengths behind the two winners.

With more CCNS riders there, we surely could have brought the break back, but Luekens and Hunter managed to scrounge their way through the sprint nonetheless, grabbing 8th and 13th. It was great to get some more early racing in and to recognize how strong the CCNS team really will be when we're in full force. Should be an exciting season...........

Plainville Race 2

The CCNS had a great day at the second race of the plainville series this past weekend. The full Squad showed ready to race hard and make an impression. Right from the gun the team set pace on the front for the first few laps, setting the high paced standard for the day. The team continued to launch attacks and make the race series leader race hard, who was just 1 point ahead of CCNS' own Craig Luekens in the overall. The team did just that as they managed to force a break with 2 CCNS riders, David Hoyle and Ron Larose, along with 6 other riders about halfway through the race.

The break stayed away for the rest of the race. In excellent tactical fashion David Hoyle launched a solo attack from 2 laps out and managed to stay away for the win! Ron Larose handily won the sprint while letting the others chase, officially giving Team CCNS 1st and 2nd place for the day!

Tim Malton, also a CCNS Client, managed 3rd for the day in the 1,2,3 race behind the two Team CCNS riders. Steve Youmatz, a Team CCNS Masters rider, won the Category 4 race earlier that morning too!

It was definitely a great day for the CCNS community as a whole.

Bethel Race #1

A strong field of 60-70 riders were out for the first Bethel Spring Series race. The new look Target Training squad and CT Coast were the best represented in the field. Plenty of talent had made the trip up from NYC as well. In for the team was Hunter Pronovost and newcomer Josh Friedman. It was a windy day, as usual for Bethel, and the plan was to be up front and represented in what was probably going to be a race decided by a break.

Both Josh and Hunter were active at first, Josh took the lead in instigating a couple of attacks, but couldnt find the right mix of guys to stay away. Hunter as well, had a go off the front in a break but that fizzled out within a lap and half. The two CCNS riders were working well together, and despite not having numbers, were at the front most of the race. Hunter missed the first prime lap prize by a bike and a half.

Most activity off the front was anchored by the strong Target Training crew. Though most moves didnt last more than a lap. The most dangerous looking break got free with about 7 laps to go. 2 Target Training guys, Eneas Freyre and another, broke clear at the right moment and got free. They had a gap as high as 17 seconds at one point, but then the duo split as the chase was ramping up behind, leaving Eneas alone to try to get to the line first.

Going into the last lap, Josh was sitting in the top 12, looking good. Hunter was a little farther back. The lone Tartget Training rider would get swept up in the final 200 meters. Josh got boxed in and couldnt get a good sprint into the top 10. Hunter had worked hard at moving up the left side on the backstretch, found an alley and sprinted a long way, managing to snag 5th... Just a few bike lengths from the win.

After the first weekend of training races, CCNS riders have points in both series...

Plainville: Race #1

The first race of the year just went down this past weekend at the first of the Plainville Crit series. The CCNS squad had a great turnout for the first race of the year.

Pro 123 Race: The usual central Connecticut cycling suspects came out for the first race… including Mike McGinely, Eric Merril, and Ron Fantono for the new IRS Medic Cycling Team. Arlen Zane Wenzel from the Horst Cycling Team, a lot of guys from the Bubble Boy Stage 1 cycling team (we’ll learn their names eventually), and the entire CVC squad.

The team was pretty excited to get things rolling for the first race of the year… and the team goal was to have someone represent CCNS in a break at all times. After a few good break attempts from various guys from the team, including Ron, Craig, Hunter, and a nice long flyer from Patrick Brandon, Aidan established with a small break with Ed Angeli and Barry Miller. After a few laps off the front, a chase group bridged up from the field with Craig Luekens in tow (deemed the “Freight Train” in the Horst Cycling Teams Blog).

With two CCNS riders established in the break of 11 riders, the group went on its way towards lapping the field. During this time the break maintained a healthy pace with the help from riders such as Arlen, Mike, Ron Fontano, and Peter Petrillo. Craig managed to win a prime and get second by a wheel length in another, all while doing his fair share of work at the front of the break. Aidan was playing the conservative role, hoping for a late attack opportunity.

As the group made full circle and attached with the back of the field, CCNS riders Ron, Patrick, and Hunter set a stiff pace for the remaining 5 laps to keep the field under control. With the leadout help of Ciaran Mangan from CCB, the CCNS team led Craig and Aidan into the final sprint for a respectable 2nd and 5th place.

The team is excited for the next race.… And with a full squad planned to show for next weekend, the team is ready to race aggressively and really throw down.

Yesterday's unseasonably warm temperatures made it an ideal day to get out on the road and put in some miles. Saturday's warmer temps and rain cleared the roadsides and melted most of the snow away making for safe riding conditions. The 2009 race season is just around the corner, gotta' get those miles in!

CT Cross State Championships

Despite ultra bone chilling temperatures and 10-20 mph wind gusts the Connecticut Cyclocross State Championships took place today at Cheshire Cross. Anthony Parent made an appearance and rode strong in the Master 35+ race. Anthony just shook a case of bronchitis and the fact that he rode today was an accomplishment in itself. In Pro 1,2,3 action Hunter Pronovost took 5th on the day. Hunter took home the silver as the 2nd Connecticut finisher in the race. David Hoyle, who just signed on to CCNS for the 2009 race season, took home the bronze as the 3rd CT finisher. Tony Vecca's cross season is over due to a leg injury, but he was out today snapping photos of the guys and putting his CCNS cowbell to good use. Weekend Results: Halloween-Nov.2nd

It's been a few weeks, but the guys were back racing this weekend at the Cycle Smart International in Northhampton, Mass. Hunter P. rode to a 7th place finish on Saturday in a huge 2/3 field and finished in the Top 15 again on Sunday. Ron LaRose decided to give cyclocross a go and jumped into the Cat. 4 race on Saturday. Ron rode to a 14th place finish in a field of nearly 100 riders, a great showing for his race. There are a number of races going on in Mass., Vermont, and New Jersey this coming weekend and the guys will be on the bikes again. November is here and cross action is at it finest!

Weekend Results: Oct. 10-12

Another great weekend of cross racing has come and gone and Hunter Pronovost showed his speed once again. Hunter took the win in the Mens 2,3 race at Saturday's Mansfield Hollow Cross Race after getting an early race lead which eventually turned into a 21 second gap. Hunter chose to double up and race the the Pro 1,2,3 race as well placing in the top 10 in that field. Anthony Vecca rode well on the very rugged course and finished 4th in the Cat. 4 race, his best finish thus far since he started racing cross last year. Congrats to both of the guys on a great day of racing! Next up, the guys will be on home turf again racing in Dayville, CT at Opa Opa Cross Sunday the 26th.

Cheshire Cross

CCNS will be one of the sponsors of this years Cheshire Cross race. This years race will also serve as the 2008 Connecticut Cyclocross Championships. Team rider Hunter Pronovost has been organizing this race for the past 3 years and its sure to be a good time. A bunch of our team members will be volunteering at the event and as of right now Anthony Vecca, Hunter P., and Team Director Aidan Charles will be racing. Weekend Results: October 10th-12th

Cyclocross season is in full swing and the Erdinger Grand Prix of Gloucester took place this weekend. The weather was ideal, sunny and in the mid-60's, and the course was fast! The highlight of the weekend was Hunter Pronovost taking the win in the Men's 2,3 race. Hunter powered up from 9th place on the last lap to take the win in a 3 man sprint! Congrats to Hunter on a very strong perfomance and a great early season victory! Anthony Vecca rode hard and placed in the top 20 of the 100+ rider Cat. 4 field Saturday and Sunday to get his New England cross season underway. Hunter and Anthony will both be racing the Mansfield Hollow Cross Race this coming Saturday on home turf here in Connecticut. Come out and cheer the guys on as they take on a truly rugged course!

Cross is underway!

Anthony Vecca raced the "Wheelers & Dealers" race at CrossVegas last week in Las Vegas, NV. Anthony finished 8th overall taking home the win in the "Retailers" bracket representing Pedal Power...and CCNS of course! The cross season is officially under way and the New England schedule is great this year. Look for Anthony, Hunter, Anthony Parent, Patrick Brandon, and possibly some others tearing up the cross course this season. Next up on the schedule, the Erdinger Gran Prix of Gloucester October 11 & 12.

Late Summer Race Report

Well its been over a month since the last post, but the team is still riding hard. A number of guys rode the Green Mountain Stage Race last weekend up in Vermont. Patrick Brandon finished 15th in the Masters 40+ field of 60 riders. Patrick hasn't raced Green Mountain in over a decade and rode strong for his first return trip. In other race news, Chris Kohnle finished 5th in the Pro 1,2,3 race at the Topsfield Circuit race this past Saturday. The road season is winding down with only a few races left, Jamestown being the season ender. It appears the team will have a number of riders giving cross a go this year...it should be a fun Fall season.

Anthony Vecca will be racing the CrossVegas "Wheelers & Dealers" race in Las Vegas on September 24th. The race is held the first night of Interbike and is open to 100 bike shop employees and industry affiliates from across the globe. Race Report

There has been a lot of racing going on over the past month. The guys have been traveling all over and riding really strong. The past two weekends the team has been on home turf racing here in Connecticut. At the New Britain Criterium last weekend Jeff Fryer took home 2nd in the Masters 65+ race and Anthony Parent rode strong taking home 4th in the Mens 30+ race. At the Donovan-Ruhlman Naugatuck Criterium yesterday Brian Tompkins got off the front with another rider in the 3/4 race to open up a 47 second gap on the field...Brian took home 2nd. August is just around the corner and the guys will be racing just about every weekend leading up to September's Green Mountain Stage Race.

Race Report

There has been a lot of racing going on over the past month. The guys have been traveling all over the Northeast and riding really well. This past weekend was the New Britain Criterium (Nutmeg State Games), which is basically a "home" race for the guys seeing its only 20 minutes from the CCNS Training Center. As usual, the team was well represented and everyone gave it their all. Jeff Fryer took home the bronze medal placing 3rd in the Masters 65+ Race. Steve Youmatz placed 4th in the Mens 30+ Cat 4/5 race, but was the 1st Connecticut finisher earning him the top spot on the podium, the 2008 Connecticut State Champions jersey, and a gold medal. Congrats to both Jeff and Steve for their great accomplishments.

A 3 day Memorial Day Weekend brought lots of racing.

On Saturday a handful of guys raced the Cylconauts Criterium at the Stafford Motor Speedway. Hunter Pronovost and Chris Kohnle finished 16th and 17th in the Pro 1,2,3 field. In the Masters 35+ race Patrick Brandon rode strong to a 13th place finish. Keith Hurley finished 34th in the Mens Cat. 4 race. The unfortunate event of the day was Jason Cicero getting caught up in a crash in the Cat. 3 race which ultimately caused him to DNF because of mechanical issues. Jason is alive and well, but rumor has it his bike needed a little TLC.

Sunday brought the Downtown Hartford Criterium, somewhat of a "home" race for the team only 20 minutes from Middletown. The team had a bunch of riders in the Pro 1,2,3 field. Chris Kohnle rode strong to an 18th place finsih. Ron LaRose finished 34th, Anthony Parent 72nd, and Hunter Pronovost 96th. Bob German was riding strong in the Pro 1,2,3 race but had some issues that caused him to pull off. Anthony Parent doubled up and also raced the Cat. 3 race finishing 34th in the 100 rider field. In Masters action, Dave Dubos finished 64th in the 30+ race, Patrick Brandon was 56th in the 40+ race and Jeff Fryer rode well to a 10th place finish in the 60+ race.

Memorial Day Monday brought the Tour of Summerville down in Jersey, results will be posted soon.

Tuesday night crit series was a rain out again.

Several of the team riders headed North for the Lake Sunapee Road Race last weekend. The highlight of day was Ron LaRose going out in an early break and hanging on the whole way to take 3rd in the Pro 1,2,3 race. Bob German and Chris Kohnle also raced the Pro 1,2,3 taking 25th and 39th respectively. Steve Youmatz was the lone Cat. 4 rider taking 73rd and Patrick Brandon raced the Masters 35+ taking 19th.

The Tuesday night crit was rained out.

Race Results: May 10 - 16

Yesterday was the Sterling Road Race up in Mass. and CCNS/Pedal Power saw its second road race victory of the season. In Cat. 3 action, Ron LaRose beat out 96 other riders to take the win covering the 56 mile course in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Bob German rode well finishing 15th followed by Brian Tompkins in 36th. In the 48 mile Women's Pro 1,2 3 race Katie Douglas rode to a 12th place finish. In the Mens Pro 1,2,3 Chris Kohnle finished 30th. Dave Dubos finished 34th in his first road race of the season, the 40 mile Mens Cat. 4 race. John Bonadies finished 61st, with this also being his first road race of the season. Kevin Malloy rode to a 16th place finish in the Cat. 4/5 race of 50 riders. In Masters action, Steve Youmatz finished 12th and Jason Cicero 20th in the 35+ Cat. 4/5 race. In the Mens 35+ Open Race Patrick Brandon finished 26th.

On Sunday, Ron LaRose took 9th in the Cat. 3 race up at Bear Mountain, New York. I'm told there was a serious break away and the field was split for most of the race.

The Tuesday night crit series at Rentschler Field was full chock full of yellow and white. In the B race Keith Hurley, Steve Youmatz, and Jason Cicero rode strong with Jason taking 2nd and Steve 3rd. In the A race Bob German finished 3rd behind Team Director Aidan Charles who took the win for the NERAC Team he races for. Ron LaRose took 2 primes and everybody rode really strong! The downer of the night was Brian Tompkins going down along with 2 other riders in the first turn of the last lap. An ambulance was called, but for the most part everyone was alright. So Saturday was another solid effort by the CCNS/Pedal Power Team up at the Jiminy Pedal Road Race. Chris Kohnle finished in the middle of the pack in the Pro 1,2,3 field of 81 riders. Lesli Stevens rode strong in the Women's race which saw a field of 63 riders. In Juniors action, Kevin Malloy finished 13th in a field of 30. The Cat. 3 was full of CCNS riders. Bob German (8th), Brian Tompkins (27th), Ron LaRose (57th), and Anthony Parent (65th) all rode strong. In Masters action, Patrick Brandon rode well placing 10th in a field of 84 riders.

On Tuesday night the East Hartford Training Crits began and the team was out in full force. In the B race, Steve Youmatz finished 2nd just barely getting inched out of first at the line. The A Race was nothing but raw speed. After lots of jockeying for position and a few solid breaks, Ron LaRose took the win sprinting with 500 meters to go ripping everyone else's legs off. Nice job guys.

My apologies for the lack of updates for last weekends races!
We're back on track this week.

Saturday was the Sturbridge Road Race and the team was well represented. The highlight of the day was the 3/4 race in which Ron LaRose finished 2nd in a photo finish. Right on Ron's heels was Bob German in 5th. Ian Marcuse was up from Virginia and rode strong with the guys until a last lap flat forced him to drop out of the race. In Masters action Steve Youmatz (16th), Keith Hurley (39th), and Patrick Brandon (50th) rode well in the 35+ race. Robert Smythe (18th) and Jeff Fyer (26th) rode well in the 55+ race. Leslie Stevens held her own in the Women's 3/4 race placing 23rd. Congrats to everyone!

Sunday brought on the Palmer Road Race and the team was out in full force! Again, the highlight of the day was the 3/4 race. The 5 guys in the race rode very aggressive and smart covering all breaks and ramping up the pace mile by mile. Bob German came out on top taking the win in a wicked sprint! Ian Marcuse (18th), Ron LaRose (19th), Brian Tompkins (31st), and Anthony Parent (70th) all had key roles in getting Bob the win. Anthony jumped out in an early break and tore his legs off to keep the pace high and stay way from the main field with Brian and Ron eventually bridging the gap. In the 3/4 women's race Leslie Stevens placed 20th. In the Masters 55+ race Bob Smythe place 25th and in the Cat. 4 race Kevin Malloy rode to a 41st place finish.

The team looks to stay on the podium and keep the tempo up as they head North to Massachusetts for the Jiminey Peak Road Race Saturday and the Blue Hills Classic on Sunday.

There was a lot of racing going on this past weekend. At the Plainville Crit, Jason Cicero took back the yellow leaders jersey in the Cat. 4/5 series with a 3rd place finish. The team kept the overall lead in the 4/5 thanks to Jason's consistent podium finishes. Yet again, Dave Dubos was the work horse in the 4/5 race driving the pace up and up each lap. In the 3/4 race Brian Tompkins jumped in a break and rode strong to a 2nd place finish and a Prime. Brian was back on his Duratec, its first race since Brian crashed it hard a few weeks ago. Brian's finish moved the team into the 2nd slot in the 3/4 overall and Ron LaRose held onto his 4th slot in the individual overall. Brian moved up to 7th overall. In masters action, Keith Hurley rode strong to a 3rd place finish. Keith's effort keeps the masters team in the 3rd slot overall and Steve Youmatz is still in 4th in the individual overall. Nice job guys!

At the Chris Hinds Crit in Rhode Island, the team had a handful of riders giving it their all in the Pro 1,2,3 race. Hunter Pronovost lead the team in with a 10th place finish. Ron LaRose came in 15th, Bob German 20th, and Chris Kohnle 25th. In the masters race Patrick Brandon rode to a 23rd place finish.

Next weekend looks to be very busy with the team spread all over the Northeast. The weekends races include the last Plainville Crit, Battenkill-Roubaix, the Ninigirt Crit, and the Miles Standish Road Race. Check back this time next week for races results and hopefully some new photos!

Today was a good day for the team at the Plainville Crit Series. After a wet start to the day, the sun broke and temps rose creating ideal riding weather. The Cat 4/5 race was wet, but Jason, Anthony, and Dave rode strong together. Jason took a mid-race Prime to grab a point toward the Overall. Dave was the powerhouse driving the team through the last lap setting up Jason for a 3rd place finish and Anthony was right behind in 7th. Jason lost the Yellow Jersey by 1 point, but CCNS/Pedal Power is still leading the Team Overall by 7 points. Nice job guys! There was quite a turnout for the Masters Race. The guys rode smart the whole race covering breaks, grabbing a prime (Steve Y.), and taking turns working up front. Keith Hurley was a work horse setting the pace for several laps. Steve Youmatz held it down in the final sprint finishing 4th. Steve is now 3rd in the Masters Overall and the team is 3rd in Master Team points. Hunter and Chris rode well in the Pro 1,2,3 race. Hunter came in 11th with Chris right behind in 14th. Despite being a no show for the past 2 weeks, Ron LaRose is still in 3rd in the 3/4 series and so is the team. Not too shabby! At the Johnny Cake Lane race in New York Bob German rode strong to a 16th place finish in the Pro 1,2,3 field of 40+ riders. Patrick Brandon placed 30th proving he can hang with the young guns. Congrats to our Team Director Aidan Charles on his 6th place finish. Aidan rides for the NERAC Pro Cycling Team.

Saturday was a good day for the team at the Plaiville Crit. Series. Jason Cicero took 4th in the Cat. 4/5 race to retain the yellow jersey and keep himself/CCNS in the lead headed into week 4. Brian Tompkins finished 8th in the 3/4 race on his "spare bike" after last weeks crash knocked his new Duratec out of commission for a few weeks. Ron LaRose is currently ranked 4th in the 3/4 overall. Steve Youmatz finished 8th in the 39+ race which earned him 4th overall in the series points. Hunter Pronovost rode well in the Pro 1,2,3 race finishing in the 5th slot and putting him in the Top 10 for series points. Great job guys!

In Johnny Cake Lane action down in Coxsackie, NY Ron LaRose rode to a 6th place finsih in the Pro (A) race. Patrick Brandon and Bob German also rode strong finishing in the main field. Solid riding guys!

In other team news, CCNS motor pacing sessions have begun. A bunch of the guys put in an hour of motor pacing yesterday afternoon after a training ride. Check out some photos of the pacing over at the teams Flickr page.

Saturday's Plainville race had its ups and downs for the team. The highlight of the day was Jason Cicero taking 2nd in the 4/5 race giving CCNS/Pedal Power the overall team lead and giving Jason the yellow jersey heading into week 3 of the series. Congrats Jason! Dave Dubos rode strong finishing 8th in the 4/5 race. Ron LaRose took 3rd in the 3/4 race putting him in 3rd overall in the points standings and the team in 2nd. Nice work! The team would like to send a "Get Well" out to team rider Brian Tompkins who was involved in a nasty crash in the 3/4 race. Brian tells us he's ok, and he'll be back racing next weekend..but I know is Duratec is in rough shape. We'll see how things pan out this week? Saturday's Plainville race was great for the CCNS/Pedal Power Team despite wet roads and chilly temps.! The guys rode smart covering every break, attacking, and working together as a team. The highlights of the day were Ron LaRose taking the win in the Cat. 3/4 race. On the last lap, Ron opened up a lead on the main field around the last turn and drove it home! After all that, Ron also jumped in the Pro race and finished 12th in the field of 38 riders. Not too shabby! Anthony Parent and Patrick Brandon rode strong in the 3/4 race taking 6th and 8th and Brian Tompkins showed some good legs taking the lead and opening up a gap on the field for several laps. In that same race, Anthony and Brian took Primes. Nice job guys! Jason Cicero finished strong taking 3rd in the Cat. 4/5 race. Not bad for a guy who probably hasn't slept in a week thanks to the arrival of his new daughter! Congrats Jason! In Masters action, Steve Youmatz took 3rd in the 4/5 race. Three people on the podium was a great start to the Plainville Series. Until next week...

Saturday turned out to be a bust thanks to Mother Nature. The team was supposed to get together and race the 1st race of the Plainville series, then head out on a team rider for a few hours, but the day was a rain out...bummer! Yesterday was a solid day for the team at the second race of the Bethel Series. Bob German and Ron LaRose took 2nd & 3rd in the Mens 3/4 race. Bob was off the front by almost a minute with another rider putting in a great effort and Ron had one heck of a sprint to keep his 3rd position. Brian Tompkins rode well finishing in 14th in the 3/4 race as well. Everyone looked good and week 2 of the 2008 season is in the books. With the help of our sponsors the team kicked off the 2008 season with the Team Presentation. The event was held at Pedal Power's Next Level: Bicycle Gallery & Fit Studio in conjunction with the Pedal Power Season Kick-Off Party. Team Director Aidan Charles presented the 2008 squad as a team promo ran on the flat screen TV throughout the evening. The attendance was great and many of the team sponsors made it out to the event. 2008 looks to be a great year, as time will tell...

2008 Racing Begins...

The racing season began this past Sunday with the first race of the Bethel Series. Lots of team riders made it out to the event and everybody looked strong. The highlights of the day were Robert Schmidt taking 4th in the Pro 1,2,3 race after traveling all the way down from his home in New York. Robert is back in the area on Spring Break, he's a college student out in Durango, CO. Bob German was the other strong finisher, with a 7th place showing in the Cat. 3/4 race. Full race results can be viewed over at BikeReg.com. The team looks to improve as the Plainville Series begins on Saturday. The whole team should be in attendance, as we have a mandatory team training/bonding ride after the event. It should be fun! Let's hope the weather holds out!

Today was the Steadman Cyclocross Grand Prix in Warwick, Rhode Island and the course was snowy, muddy, and it was cold out! Despite being sick all week and off the bike for 5 days, Anthony Vecca placed 5th out of a field of 70 riders in the Cat. 4 race. As always, Anthony's girlfriend shot a ton of photos which can be seen over at his photo page.

Weekend Results / Weekend Racing

Saturday was the coldest race day yet, 21 degrees and 25pmh winds at the Easthampton Cyclocross race. Anthony Vecca got a great start in the Cat. 4 race, but he was forced to drop out due to a stripped out crank bolt.

Anthony will be the lone CCNS rider racing in the last 2 races of the VERGE New England Cross Series in Warwick, Rhode Island Saturday and Sunday. These races should draw lots of riders and even more spectators seeing they are both UCI events.

Sorry for the delay, the final results just got posted yesterday. On Sunday at the Palmer Cross Race Patrick Brandon finished 15th in the 35+ Masters race, although we're pretty sure the results were messed up cause Patrick didn't get lapped and was in the middle of the pack? Anthony Vecca finished 5th in the Cat. 4 race.

The Palmer Race and this coming Saturday's Easthampton, Mass. race are part of the 2007 Competitive Edge Cyclocross Series. If Patrick races well Saturday he can break into the Top 10 in the series overall rankings and Anthony has a chance to finish the series on the podium. Rumor has it the course if fast and with temps. expected to be in the low 20's the ground is going to be rock solid!

Anthony will also be headed up to Wrentham, Mass. on Sunday morning to race the Minute Man Road Club Cross Event.

Despite the holiday, this weekend is going to be chock full of cross racing action. Patrick Brandon will likely be racing Saturday at the Baystate Cyclocross UCI race in Sterling, Mass. Both Patrick and Anthony Vecca will be racing Sunday at Palmer Cross, in Palmer, Mass. The weather man is predicting mid 40's and cloudy for both days, ideal cross racing weather!

Sorry for the delay, I was waiting for the official results to get posted on BikeReg...which just happened last night. Cheshire Cross was a fun race but it featured a grueling run-up that tore your legs off! Team newcomer Patrick Brandon placed 13th in the Masters 35+ race. Patrick is a former Cat. 2 racer getting back into the scene with CCNS. Expect to hear a lot more about Patrick and the Masters team in 2008! Anthony Vecca placed 13th in the Mens Cat. 4 race after being plagued with 2 mechanical issues in the first quarter mile of the race. Aidan rode strong in the Mens Elite race, but a flat with one lap to go ended the day for him. Thanks to the new team members for coming out to cheer on the guys!

This weekend is the last Connecticut cyclocross race of the season! Cheshire Cross will be taking place Saturday at Cheshire Park in Cheshire. Wow, that's a lot of Cheshire! Anthony V. will be racing in the Mens. Cat 4 race at noon and coach Aidan Charles will be racing in the Pro race at 2. Come out and get a look at Anthony Parent in the Mens Cat 3/4 race at 1. Anthony is finishing up the year with his current team Anthem, but has signed with CCNS for the 2008 season. It looks to be a crisp but sunny fall day. Come out with your cowbells and support the guys!

Yesterday was the 17th Annual West Hill Shop Cyclocross Race in Putney, Vermont. Anthony Vecca was the only team rider in attendance and he had his best race of the year placing 5th in the Mens Cat. 4 race. As usual, there are photos posted over at the Team Photo Site.

The team got together for the first official Sunday morning CCNS/Pedal Power Team Training Session yesterday. There was a good turnout and the guys put in a solid 60 miles. Team riders, be sure to check the Team Forum for the time and location of next Sunday's ride. If you haven't registered for the forum please do so. It's a great resource for all of us to stay in touch and up to date on team insider info.

Duratec Bikes came through and will be giving us the opportunity to order any of their frames custom with the CCNS/Pedal Power Cycling Team paint scheme. Orders are due in to Aidan by November 15th. Also due the 15th are team apparel orders. We will be staying with Champion System for 2008 and any item you may see on their site is available to order. Anthony rode strong at the Chainbiter 9.0 UCI Cyclorcross Race on Saturday in Farmington, CT. Placing 17th out of 85 riders in the Men's Cat. 4 Race, Anthony finished much better than expected. For a bunch of race photos CLICK HERE. Anthony opted out of Sunday's CycleSmart International Race due to cold symptoms and fatigue brought on from Saturday's effort and harsh weather. Gotta' get well for next weeks Plymouth Cyclocross Race! Coach Aidan Charles rode the Elite Mens race at the CycleSmart event in Northhampton, MA and appeared comfortable on his new Fugi cross bike courtesy of his teammate Chris Jones. Aidan is improving and getting a lot more in tune with the cross style of racing.

This weekend looks to be insane! Saturday is the Chainbiter 9.0 cyclecross race in Farmington and Sunday is the Cyclesmart International in Northhampton, Mass. Anthony is racing both days at 9 am in the Cat. 4 race and there are rumors of Aidan and Bob German also racing on Saturday. It's going to be a cold one, with the weather man predicting temps. in the low 30's Saturday morning. Come out and cheer on the team! Don't forget your cowbells!

Weekend Results...and stuff

Yesterday was the State Cyclocross Championships at Camp Sloper in Southington, CT. Anthony Vecca finished 16th out of a 45 rider field in the mens Cat 4 race completing his 1st cross race ever. Team Director and Coach Aidan Charles borrowed Anthony's bike for the Mens Elite race and finished in one piece. Not bad for racing a course with a bunch of running involved with road shoes and using somebody else' bike. Head over to Anthony's Flickr and check out the photos.

Weekend Racing

So this weekend is the Connecticut Cyclocross Championships. Anthony Vecca will be representing the team riding in the Cat. 4 race. Team Manager Aidan Charles will be racing the Elite Men's 1,2 race. Come out and cheer on the guys as they take it off-road for some high speed cross action.

Weekend Results

The guys rode strong at the Jamestown Road Race this past Monday. The highlight of the day was team rider Kevin Malloy placing 5th in the under 30 Cat. 5 race. This was only Kevin's second race ever and he almost had 4th sprinting to the line with another rider. After awaiting the "official results" to be posted it seems the team was shafted. Kevin Malloy, who finished 5th, was not accounted for and a question mark stands in the 5th spot. Anthony Vecca finished 28th out of the 70 riders in the Cat. 4 field, but his race number was folded over coming across the finish leaving him unaccounted for. Lastly, Bob German finished 38th in the Mens Pro 1,2,3 race but for some reason they left out his team and location...CCNS/Pedal Power, Middletown, CT. Somebody at the timing service doesn't like us :)Anyway, we rode our butts off, that's all that matters. Another good road racing season in the books!

Weekend Racing

WOW! It's been weeks since any of us have raced. This weekend will cap off the road racing season. On Saturday some of the guys will be racing the 2nd Annual 3 Village Tour Road Race in Sprague, CT. On Sunday another handful of guys will be racing the 1st Annual YMCA Rose Pedal Criterium in Norwich, CT. Both of those races are sponosred by Mohegan Sun and there is some good prize money up for grabs.

Monday is Columbus Day and the 32nd Annual Jamestown Classic Bike Race in Rhode Island. It appears the team will be well represented with riders in a number of races. Kevin Malloy, Zach Cannata, Bob German, and Anthony Vecca will all be on hand for the event, as well as some team newcomers and CCNS clients. Come out and support the team and enjoy the holiday on picturesque Jamestown! The killer downhill finish at this race is a sure crowd pleaser!

The 2008 cycling season will be here before you know it! With that said, we are making an effort to lock down sponsors to support the team next year. It looks like we'll be taking on a number of new riders, especially at the junior level. Keep checking back for the latest info on the 2008 season ahead.

INTERBIKE....

So I am back from INTERBIKE and it was a pretty successful trip. Aidan and I met with a bunch of potential sponsors from the 2008 cycling season and plugged the team to a bunch of other companies. Now its a waiting game to see who wants to give us a shot! It appears our CCNS Winter order from Champion System will be on time, a few more weeks and the stuff will be here. We attended the CrossVegas race and the US Crit. Championships while out at the show. I posted a ton of photos of Aidan's NERAC teammates that raced and there are also a bunch of shots of the DURATEC bikes that were displayed at the show. DURATEC is a potential sponsor for next year and as you know they sponsor NERAC. Check the photos out HERE.

Late September News

Next week Coach Aidan Charles and team rider Anthony Vecca will be out in Las Vegas for INTERBIKE. Meetings have been set up with potential sponsors for the 2008 racing season and several more are going to be scheduled while they are at the show. The guys will also be attending the CrossVegas national caliber cyclocross race, the US Crit Championships at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, and several other events. Check back for photos and updates in early October.

The last road race of the season for most of the guys will be on Columbus Day, October 8th, at the Jamestown Classic. Come out and cheer on the team as we cap a good racing season off! The cyclocross season is beginning and Anthony will be racing just about every weekend up until Christmas. Lets hope his CCNS cyclocross skinsuit gets here from Champion Systems before "Old Man Winter" does!

In non-cycling related news, team rider Bob German faced off against Coach Aidan Charles' brother Foster in an ice cream eating contest at the CCNS office. 45 minutes into the ordeal Bob had downed a half gallon and was talking about puking and Foster had a lot of catching up to do! Green Mountain Stage Race

Bob German was the only team rider to race in the Green Mountain Stage Race this past Labor Day weekend. Bob did well for a first year participant placing 39th out of a field of 83 in the Cat. 3 race.

Middletown Grand Prix

The Middletown Grand Prix took place yesterday and we had a decent turnout for the 1st annual event. Thank you to all the volunteers, race officials, sponsors, and anybody else that played a part in making this race a success!

The highlight of the day was team rider Bob German placing 3rd in the Cat. 3 race. More team results, and the overall race results, will be posted shortly.

It was a busy weekend of racing for the CCNS/Pedal Power Team.

On Saturday...Bob German and Kevin Malloy raced the Tour of the Hilltowns up in Mass. Both guys rode strong and finished with the pack in their respective races. Congrats to Kevin, this was his 1st race ever, and a 57 miler is a heck of a way to start!

Calvin Smythe raced the Mystic Velo Criterium in Rhode Island on Saturday. Calvin took home a 4th in the Cat. 4 race earing him a little prize money and Top 5 honors. Congrats!

On Sunday...the team was in full force at the Keith Berger Memorial Criterium at Founder's Plaza in East Hartford. The highlight of the day was Robert Schmidt taking home the win in the Cat. 3 race; he also took 4th in the Juniors race. Congrats to Rob!

Bob German was an animal and raced the Cat. 3, Juniors, and Pro 1,2,3 races; that's 75 miles of racing! (not to mention he raced the 57 mile Tour of the Hilltowns on Saturday). Bob's best finish of the day was 3rd in the Juniors race. I'm sure Bob will be feeling it today!

Kevin Malloy rode well on his 2nd day of racing ever. Kevin finished with the pack in the Cat. 5 race and held his own in the Juniors race. Not bad after a grueling 57 miler at the Tour of the Hilltowns Saturday!

Robert Smythe, Calvin Smythe, and Anthony Vecca all rode strong in the Cat. 4 race. Calvin had the best finish of the trio placing 18th and taking a $20 cash prime mid-way through the race. Best of luck to Calvin as he end's his 2007 East Coast racing season with the team and heads back to school in Chicago. Great riding this Spring/Summer!

The team was racing all over the Northeast this past weekend...

Bob German headed up to the NY Capital Region Road Race in Albany with team coach Aidan Charles. Bob raced the Cat. 3/4 race and ended up DNFing after having some issues mid-way through the race. Aidan, racing for the NERAC Pro Team, placed 4th taking home some cash.

The Smythe's made their way up to Taunton, Mass. on Saturday for the Silver City Flyer Massachusetts State Criterium Championships. Calvin raced in the Cat. 3/4 race and Bob in the Mens 55+ and both held their own finishing mid-pack. Wow, does Summer fly by. Only one more week of racing on the East Coast for Calvin before he heads back to school in Chicago.

Anthony Vecca was the lone team rider at the Blount Seafoods Fall River Criterium in Mass. Sunday morning. With 2.5 miles to go in the Cat. 4 race Anthony closed 10 seconds and bridged up to the leader on his own. Sadly, the 2 were caught with about a half mile to go leaving Anthony with a 15th place finish. Tina McCurdy shot some photos of the race, check them out, Click Here.

In other news...
Anthony will be racing the 2007 cyclocross season for CCNS/Pedal Power Team and there is a chance Bob German will be joining him. This would be the guys first cross season and they hope to hold their own in the Cat. 3/4 ranks.

From New York to Mass., it was a great weekend of racing for the team!

Calvin Smythe rode great on Saturday placing 2nd in the Cat. 4 race at "The Main Event" Poughkeepsie Criterium. If I'm not mistaken, this is Calvin's first podium finish of the season. Congrats!

The team had a few riders in attendace at the Attleboro Criterium on Saturday. Bob German rode well placing 8th is the Cat. 3 race and Robert Smythe rode strong in the Mens 55+ race.

Bob German also race the Unionvale Road Race (Mew York State Road Race Chamionships) in New York on Sunday. Bob placed 19th in the Cat. 3 race over the 44 miles.

Bob gets the "Road Tripper" award this weekend. The kid drove 2 hours North East on Saturday to race, drove back home to CT, and drove 2 hours North West to race on Sunday. I know the SUV Bob drives isn't easy on gas.

Robert Schmidt did a great job for the North East Regional Team (United States) as well. I caught word that Robert had issues with his cranks and spindle which forced him to drop out of the race on Friday. I could only imagine Robert would have been right up there in the top half with Harrison if he raced the last 2 days of the Tour.

Harrison Harb and Robert Schmidt were selected to represent the Northeast Region of the United States...and CCNS/Pedal Power...at the Tour de l'Abitibi Junior Stage Race in Canada. This 7 day event is part of the UCI junior world cup and 155 of the fastest Juniors in the world will be racing. We're psyched to have 2 of our team members taking part, this is huge for them! Congrats!

The team was represented in a few different states this weekend!

Bob German rode the 22nd Annual North Jersey Cycling Classic and took home 3rd in the Cat. 3 race and 3rd in the Juniors race. This was a huge accomplishment cause these races were back to back, no rest time! Only time to re-fill water bottles and get back out on the course. Congrats to Bob! I know he'll be treating us all to dinner this week with that wad prize money he won :)

Robert Smythe, Calvin Smythe, and Anthony Vecca kept it local and rode the Donovan-Ruhlman Naugatuck Criterium on Sunday. It was hot and humid race, but the guys rode strong.

Naugatuck this weekend

This weekend is the Donovan-Ruhlman Naugatuck Criterium. As of right now it looks like we'll have 3 riders attending the event. Anthony Vecca, Robert Smythe, and Calvin Smythe will be racing in the 4/5 race. Calvin will also be in the 3/4 race later in the day. Bob German will be racing the 3/4 race as well, and possible the Pro 1,2,3. The weather man says showers are possible, which would not be fun at all! Come out and support CCNS/Pedal Power.
